puzzles, labyrinths are tools for the right hemisphere of the brain, that improve creativity, intuition and spiritual awareness (hence their inclusion in cathedral architecture).
Children love to trace the paths with their toys, consequently, they are seen as an educationally beneficial addition to nurseries.
